Raise Your White Flag: Surrendering All To God

“God will not be absent when His people are on trial; He will stand in court as their Advocate, to plead on their behalf.”  ~ Charles Haddon

Without the resurrection we would have sympathy without victory.  We are the recipients of redemption and by raising your white flag, there are no negotiations.  You are in an act of war with yourself.  You are dealing with pride, envy, pain, self-esteem, anger, broken heartedness, addiction, discouragement, bitterness, conceit, doubt, guilt and the list goes on. Jesus has made it possible for you to be forgiven and your freedom allows you to become who He created you to be! The empty cross is the symbol of His promise that the road to redemption has been made. The empty Cross represents our Redemption; the victory that Jesus secured for us through his crucifixion.

Are you ready for a change to make things really matter? There is no better time than now! It is easier to ask the Lord to direct your paths than to correct your mistakes.  It is simple, give it all to God, surrender everything to Him…don’t hold anything back. Character is one thing we build in this world that we carry into the next. Choose a life that matters. What will matter is not what you learned but what you taught. What matters is every act of integrity, compassion, courage, or sacrifice that enriched, empowered or encouraged others to emulate your example.

At one time in my life, I wondered what I would have as my epitaph on my tombstone. What always came to my mind was “It’s never too late to be who you could have been.”   Looking back during that dark time in my life, I had no earthy clue where this came from. Today, I honestly believe there was a strong force stirring within my soul to change directions…a soul that was lost, endangered and dark.

Many years have passed since then and with each morning during prayer, I ask the Lord to remind me what really matters doesn’t happen by accident. It’s not a matter of circumstances but of choice. My choice is to honor His Word and work at becoming who he created me to be.. The soft whisper from the Holy Spirit many years ago is a huge part of my life everyday by raising my white flag surrendering everything to Him.

God’s Word is filled with His promises to you. As you personalize His promises and turn them into prayers, your life will change in surprising way – just like one of my favorite short stories from “Words to Live By ”  submitted by Courtney Myers “ When Your Hut’s on Fire.”

Once Upon a Time, The only survivor of a shipwreck was washed up on a small, uninhabited island.  He prayed feverishly for God to rescue him. Every day he scanned the horizon for help, but none seemed forthcoming.  Exhausted, he eventually managed to build a little hut out of driftwood to protect him from the elements, and to store his few possessions.  One day, after scavenging for food, he arrived home to find his little hut in a smoking pile of rubble, everything was lost. He was stunned with disbelief, grief, and anger. He cried out, ‘God! How could you do this to me?’ Early the next day, he was awakened by the sound of a ship approaching the island! It had come to rescue him! ‘How did you know I was here?” asked the weary man of his rescuers. “We saw your smoke signal,’ they replied.

The Moral of This Story:

It’s easy to get discouraged when things are going bad, but we shouldn’t lose heart, because God is at work in our lives, even in the midst of our pain and suffering. Remember that the next time your little hut seems to be burning to the ground. It just may be a smoke signal that summons the grace of God.

Choose a life that matters, allow everyone to see your faith, and refuse to be a victim. If God can turn your trials into triumphs, imagine what you can both do together? If you feel dejected, think back on all the good things that have happened in your life. Thank the Lord for His blessings and He will bring healing and joy to your life because God is the giver of all that is good. The wins and losses that once seemed too important will fade away. So what will matter? How will the value of your days be measured? The way has been made safe…will you raise your white flag?

I have said these things to you, that in me you may have peace. In the world you will

Have tribulation. But take heart; I have overcome the world.” John 16:33
